Bentley has introduced its first fully electric vehicle, the Torcal SUV, which is now shown in production specification. This development follows a revised electrification strategy from the company, which now plans to produce combustion models, mostly hybridized, for an extended period.
The Torcal is a four-door SUV, described as being lower and shorter than the existing Bentayga. Its overall length of 196.2 inches is closer to the Continental GT than the Bentayga. The vehicle shares its 119.0-inch wheelbase and much of its technology with the Porsche Cayenne Electric.
Initially, two versions will be offered: the Torcal and the Torcal S. Both models feature all-wheel drive with a motor at each axle and utilize the same 113-kWh battery pack as the Cayenne EV, with 108 kWh usable capacity. The 800-volt system supports DC fast-charging at up to 400 kW, potentially allowing a 10-percent-to-80-percent charge in 16 minutes under optimal conditions. The claimed European range of 375 miles is expected to translate to over 300 miles in EPA estimates.
The regular Torcal is stated to produce 809 hp and 880 lb-ft of torque, while the Torcal S increases these figures to 875 hp and 995 lb-ft with a special launch control mode. Bentley predicts a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds for the Torcal and 2.9 seconds for the Torcal S. Top speeds are 155 mph and 162 mph, respectively. The Torcal also incorporates Bentley's version of Porsche's Active Ride system and active rear steering as standard.
