Alpine coming to Goodwood with a split-battery variant of its A110 EV

The French sports carmaker will be attending this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in July with a one-off racing prototype called the A110 EV. Alpine claims it will be faster around the North Loop than the Porsche 718 Cayman.

Built on the Alpine Performance Platform (APP) made of extruded aluminum, it features a two-part traction battery that partially resides in front of the driver, with the rest of the pack mounted in the back. According to the company, this split arrangement ensures an excellent per-axle weight distribution ratio of 40:60 (front-to-rear). It also helps that the whole car weighs less than 1,500 kilos (3,300 pounds) despite being electric.

Another major tech feature comes in the form of a silicon-carbide power inverter designed to maximize torque and torque control while ensuring lightning-fast throttle response, Alpine claims.

It remains to be seen what the production-ready A110 EV will look like, though. The Goodwood show car is still a prototype. In earlier announcements, Alpine promised to make it available with a three-motor AWD powertrain and a dual-motor RWD one where both motors focus on driving the same axle. It never mentioned any sprint times, but said that the coupe would be faster than the gas-powered Porsche 718 Cayman on the Nürburgring.
