McLaren Secures Investment, Plans SUV and New Engines

McLaren has announced a £500 million investment from L'IMAD, a sovereign investment fund managed by the Abu Dhabi government. This funding is intended to support the expansion of McLaren's manufacturing operations in the United Kingdom and the development of new models, including an SUV.

The company plans to establish a new vehicle assembly facility in the UK. Additionally, McLaren stated that all future powertrains will be designed and built in-house, beginning with two new engines and transmissions. The investment will also support existing facilities, such as the McLaren Production Centre in Woking and the McLaren Composites Technology Centre in South Yorkshire.

Separately, a report indicates that McLaren is developing its first SUV, which could feature an all-wheel-drive V8 hybrid powertrain. This model is reportedly designed to be a four-door, five-seat vehicle. Another report suggests that the Artura supercar may be discontinued by 2028 and replaced by a new twin-turbo V6 hybrid mid-engined supercar.
