A 1980 Ford Bronco Raptor is up for grabs on an online marketplace in the USA right now for a semi-reasonable price of $12,000. The seller argues that it is a custom-built off-roader armed with a more recent engine, but whether that justifies the sticker is up to you.
The exterior looks… unique with its bulging Baja-style fenders, LED headlights, tinted brake lights and a pronounced front bumper. The sides and the hood benefit from new air intakes, and the whole body comes painted in Woodland Green with a black roof for contrast.
It doesn’t take a sophisticated eye to notice how amateur the build looks. Loosely aligned panels, a mishmash of shapes and a body that looks visibly sagging/broken along the a-pillar line aren’t great selling points. Then again, it does look unique, and the seller says it gets plenty of attention on the road. If you’re after that.
Things stay more or less the same in the cabin with the exception of new power-adjustable seats, a modern multimedia system and a six-channel audio setup. The stock engine is no more, replaced with a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 sourced from a 1985 Ford Mustang. The carburetor engine sends 213 PS (210 hp / 157 kW) to the wheels – not too much, but still more than any classic Bronco ever had.
The listing points out less-than-perfect technical condition with a need for minor repairs, but the SUV is otherwise fully drivable. Oh, and the mileage is another cat in the bag.
