Tesla has opened its preorder books for a new trimmed-down version of the Cybertruck. It costs a cool $20,000 less, but is only available to those who preordered the electric truck at launch, CarBuzz says.
According to these reports, Tesla is currently sending letters with this offer to the truck buyers in the waiting queue, starting with those who ordered first. The base price is U.S. $79,900.
The issue with the Cybertruck deliveries is that only dual- and triple-motor Foundation Series pickups are available right now, priced from $99,990. If you order one now, Tesla undertakes to deliver it between October and December this year.
The company doesn’t say how long you may have to wait for the cheaper trim. Back in 2020, it reported receiving more than 535,000 reservations. Even if most of those get canceled, it may still take a few years to process the rest.
Compared to the “standard” Cybertruck that has yet to go on sale, the Foundation Series is bundled with a lot of options. These include premium wheels shod in 35-inch tires, assorted smart features and driving aids, and a few power sockets in the bed. White interior trim, a panoramic glass roof and a home charger are listed under options.
