Nissan previews the NX7 SUV for China

Dongfeng-Nissan continues to expand its “N” vehicle family for the Chinese domestic market. A new, rather compact-sized crossover SUV is slated to join its larger cousin NX8 and two sedans, N6 and N7, in a few months.

Based on the first official images, the NX7 draws inspiration from the Nissan Urban Concept that debuted at the Auto China show back in April (see video). It has similar-looking stacked headlights, a smooth and low-drag front fascia, and a roof that appears to hover thanks to blacked-out pillars. The exact dimensions and the interior remain to be revealed.

As for the powertrain, Nissan called the Urban Concept a range-extender hybrid during the show. We suppose it could also spin off an all-electric version in China. For reference, the NX8 uses a 148-PS (146-hp / 109-kW) engine as a power generator for a rear-axle electric motor driving the wheels with 265 PS (261 hp / 195 kW).

Its fully electric counterpart is also RWD, but bumps up the output to either 292 PS (288 hp / 215 kW) or 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW). Batteries come in 73-kWh and 81-kWh sizes.

The Dongfeng-Nissan NX7 is expected to go on sale in China before the end of the year, but a proper announcement with specific dates is still pending.
