Rolls-Royce builds a race-themed Ghost, but don’t expect to see it on track

Back in the distant year 1906, Charles Royce – who had shortly prior founded the Rolls-Royce company – entered a Tourist Trophy race on Island of Man driving a car of his own make. His spectacular victory prompted the company to build this one-off Black Badge Ghost sedan 120 years later.

The car wears a British Racing Green paintjob with a tan stripe running along both sides and Royce’s starting number 4 seen above the front right fender. According to the manufacturer, the full meaning of the number four here is more involved and interesting than that, though. Piloting his Light 20 HP car around the track, Royce made a total of four laps in around four hours, nearly running out of gas but still securing gold. With each lap being more than 40 miles (almost 65 kilometers) long, it was a serious trial by the standards of the early 20th century.

The available interior photos suggest that the car received a black leather trim with exterior-matching tan accents and Man circuit motifs throughout.

While presenting the luxury ride, Rolls-Royce made it clear that it had nothing to do with any motorsport plans, so better not get your hopes up if you wanted to see the brand compete again. As for how many units were built, the company said it was a private commission, so we are going with the assumption that only one such saloon exists.
