A rather eccentric 2010 Nissan GT-R hit the auction block in the Netherlands the other day. It packed Safari looks alongside an engine boosted to 600 metric hp, yet failed to meet reserve with the top bid at a dismal €55,000.
That’s downright tragic for a vehicle with a disclosed insured value of €120,000. If we had to guess, though, controversial looks probably played a major role in this outcome. The owner slapped giant auxiliary lights onto the front end, cut the wheel arches, and topped them with rugged-looking black bolt-on flares. Stock wheels made room for aftermarket forged rims shod in all-terrain rubber. A roof rack was added along with a LED bar and a full-fledged spare wheel.
It’s not clear how much more ground clearance this GT-R has compared to the standard model, but we are guessing it’s a whole lot. If anything, the OEM rear wing looks extremely out-of-place on a car like this. Which is not to say that it isn’t sporty: the engine received a boost from its original 492 PS (485 hp / 362 kW) to 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW). The six-speed dual-clutch transmission and AWD system have apparently carried over without modifications.
As enticing as this GT-R off-roader might be to some enthusiasts, it’s not exactly in tip-top shape with nearly 55,000 kilometers (34,200 miles) on the odometer. It also lacks the luster of a brand-new car with the listing pointing out various cosmetic defects throughout the body. For instance, the front left fender is damaged, and the front bumper is slightly misaligned.
One has to wonder how much the owner had hoped to get for this weird one-off build.
