The McLaren Artura, the company's entry-level hybrid supercar, is reportedly slated to be discontinued from the lineup by 2028. This move is said to make way for a new supercar, code-named P34, which is expected to be positioned below the 750S. The P34 is anticipated to have a starting price around $313,000, which is approximately $60,000 more than the Artura, potentially increasing the entry cost for a new McLaren vehicle.
The Artura's launch faced multiple delays, and its initial deliveries in 2021 were impacted by a global semiconductor shortage. In late 2022, McLaren reportedly sold over $120 million worth of vehicles from its heritage collection, which was stated to be an effort to address technical issues with the car.
Market competition has also evolved since the Artura's introduction. While it was initially competitive with models like the Ferrari F8 and Lamborghini Huracan, subsequent releases such as the Ferrari 296 GTB and Lamborghini Temerario have reportedly set new performance benchmarks in the junior supercar category. The Artura's launch issues and technical concerns are cited as factors from which the model has not fully recovered.
